I have had a bit of a rough week. First came the difficulties with my goat Michael. Then my cat Fred went missing. Fred didn't come home on Monday night and he STILL hasn't come home. This is very unusual behavior for Fred because he is a cat that likes his comforts. We have neighbors that have also had a cat not come home and there are reports of a cougar in the area. So at this point we figured Fred wasn't coming back.
I am devastated as Fred was my lap cat. After years and years of cats that were typical cats I finally had that one cat that would sit in my lap with me. He was super friendly and I just loved him. So losing Fred on top of having to lose Michael and I was just not a happy person.
Things have been tight around here moneywise so one less cat to feed was probably a good thing. My husband has never really cared for my cats. He always has said he loves me and tolerates the cats. And I have had a LOT of cats in our 28 years of marriage. I used to take in the strays that people would dump in our old neighborhood in New Jersey. It was a wildlife refuge and there were plenty of cats dumped. There were also more feral cats than could be counted. I used to trap the females and have them fixed. I think we built the Vet's new office building.
I always complained that I have had cats of every color imaginable but never an orange cat. I have had black cats, white cats, grey cats, tabby cats and various combinations but never an orange cat.
Yesterday my husband had to go to Helena on business and was coming back through Missoula to pick up the paint for our house. (Hooray for that!) When he got home he handed me one of our cat carriers. At first I didn't get it. But then it dawned on me.....and I started to cry.
He had stopped at the Humane Society in Missoula and he brought me home and orange kitten!
Isn't he just the best?!
I will have better photos tomorrow on Pricilla's blog. The light was bad last night as it was late when he got home. Plus the little thing just doesn't sit still! I haven't even figured out what to name him yet.
I love my husband.

I am not the least bit surprised. I love your husband too. :)
So sorry to hear about all the troubles with Michael. What a lovely little kitty. Can't wait to find out what you have named the little guy (girl?). Isn't it great to have a husband that rocks :)
Yep,that Hubby is definitely a keeper!I love the kitty!I used to always have cats, but The Boy is allergic to them.I miss how cute they are.Your new kitty is like a big ball of sunshine!
I adore orange cats. I am not a cat person but for a little orange and cream tabby I melt like a creamcicle (I didn't spell that right.)
Anyway. My one and only cat I ever owned was an orange tabby. His name was Tuffy. I loved him so.
One day he walked to the park and someone took him home. He was so beautiful and friendly I guess they couldn't resist. I was a very sad 12 year old.
Patty, there is NOTHING in this world as fine as an orange male. They are the BEST cats as my aunt (she works at animal control) will attest. I hope your new little guy carries on the tradition.
How sweet of your husband to get him for you! Can you see him picking out the right kitten? How cute!
I think you should name him Calvin and we can share a blog together with our two stripey guys--Calvin and Hobbes!! Geesh, we'd be blowing the other blogs out of the water on that one!
Give him a giant smoochie for me!!!! I can't wait to see more photos.
You're right, your husband ROCKS! What an adorable kitten! We love our orange tabby - Ruff (as in Orange Roughy, the fish...goofy, I know). I love Lin's idea, name him Calvin so there will be Calvin and Hobbes blogs!
Oh, and I'm sooo sorry about Fred going AWOL. We had two cats disappear from here last summer and I'm pretty sure it was the coyotes. But then we had a cat go missing years ago and we're pretty sure somebody who was camping on the property next to us took her. She was an attention whore and would go to anyone!
Thanks everyone. He really surprised me with this one. The kitten is just too funny. I haven't had one is sooooo long I had forgotten. Most of mine are strays that I get as adults.
His name is officially Carhartt
heh heh. He is the same color as the hubby's Carhartts. When he sits on them you can't pick the cat out.
That actually brought a few teardrops to my toughened eyes. That is so wonderfully sweet I can not believe it.
What a sweetie!! (both hubby and kitty LOL). Kittens are the best for making you feel better, hopefully this one will learn to sit on your lap and cuddle!
Good luck with the name - names are so hard.
Butterscotch?
I'm so sorry to hear about Fred. Having a lap cat is important! The new cat is gorgeous, and that was so sweet of your husband. Our best cat ever was an orange tabby.
your family in Nj is so sad to hear about Fred! We are so happy that you finally got your orange cat!!!!!
from dmjm4 :)
Such a cute new addition to the family! What a sweet thing for your husband to do for you :)

Prayers Fred will come home.
