Glasses, Glasses Where Did I Put my Glasses?

I have not been blessed with 20/20 vision. Whenever presented with the "what would you wish for if you had three wishes" one of mine would be to open my eyes in the morning and be able to see clearly. I had to get my first pair of eyeglasses when I was 6 years old. SIX! While I don't remember much from my childhood I do remember those glasses; they were baby blue cat's eye glasses with rhinestones at the corners. Have I given away my age with that one statement? Let's just say I have been wearing glasses long enough to see those cat's eyes go out of style and now come back in. *sigh*

My eyes have not improved in time. Oh no! While I did wear contact lenses - what teenager wants to wear glasses I ask you - I still had to have my prescription glasses as a fallback. Especially in the beginning when I had my hard lenses. Those buggers would seem to pop out for no reason at all. I was glad when soft lenses appeared on the scene but still I relied on and was always happy I had those glasses for days when I didn't feel well or my eyes hurt. Then I hit my mid 30ies and suddenly my arms weren't long enough any longer. Hmmmm, it was bi-focal time. So now I had reading glasses on top of my contact lenses.

Then my brain went south on me! I had my brain aneurysm which left me with a myriad of problems one of them being double vision on top of my already poor eyesight. I now required 4 pairs of glasses for my daily functions; one pair to see, one pair to read, one pair for computer work and one pair for making my jewelry. FOUR. I will tell you shopping for four pairs of eyeglass frames is challenging. Especially with my "peanut face" as the opticians always refer to it , my coke bottle prescription and the prisms that now have to be added to adjust for the double vision. Whew! At least after all of these years I have a good idea of what looks good on my little face.

Look for further tales of my eyeglass adventures in a future post.

Goodness, that is challenging! You seem like such a trouper by not letting it slow you down from doing the things you want to.

My Hubby and his family are all legally blind without corrective lenses. They all went into glass very young like you.I know through watching them how it can be very frustrating sometimes.I am so thankful for their glasses and contacts though, so they can live regular lives.

I've been wearing glasses forever too. I loved my contacts for many years, until I needed reading glasses over them, just like you do. No, I rarely wear my contacts. I have a special pair for jewelry making too - NVO (near vision only) and they have made a big difference for me.

I guess it's just one of the burdens we must bear...

Happy New Year-I understand the glasses issues-there is always something on my face-unless it is midnight and the airlines are thinking that is a good time to deliver my bag and then I have to sign something and my glasses are not on my nose-without them I cannot hear or think.

Oh you poor thing! I totally understand. I was born with cataracts. BORN WITH! didn't stand a chance, sigh. Even after 7 surgeries from age 15 to 22 they still can never get me perfect vision. I feel like Fred Sanford searching thru his glasses drawer! I have a pair of rx sunglasses, reading glasses and distance glasses. Still, it sucks! I'm also very light sensitive so even on overcast days I have to wear the sunglasses outside. People think I'm nuts, lol I hope you find some comfort!

Oh boy darling, I have only one pair and my eyes hate contacts so I have to wear glasses. A while back Caden got a hold of them and that was the longest wait for a new pair to come in and my eyes were hating wearing contacts ... UGH.

My dad has the coke bottom that he wore since a kid, really I never believed him that they were coke bottoms but really they are. He just got the crazy expensive eye surgery last week and is loving it.

I understand the glasses dilemma... I too started wearing my glasses at a very young age. 5 or 6 I think it was. I did contacts for a while and loved them before I moved to Wyoming and they dry out so fast that they hurt too much to wear anymore... :(

Wow 4 pairs of glasses!
