Ruminatin': 29 Years Ago

Do you remember what you were doing 29 years ago today?
I do.
I got married.

I awoke to an absolutely beautiful day; the sun was shining and it would get to close to 60°. In February. At the Jersey Shore. The week before it had snowed and I was in despair. But on MY day it was gorgeous. I was young, I was getting married to the man of my dreams and it was a perfect day. Could it get any better?

I did the usual things; I went to the hairdresser, got my nails done, tried to stay calm. My hubby to be did the unusual things; he went on a fire call. He was on a volunteer fire company at the time and the whistle blew so wedding or no wedding he answered the call.

My mother helped me get dressed in a dress that I loved. It was the only dress I tried on. I saw it and fell in love and that was it. Now the headpiece - that is another matter altogether. I hated that thing. But my mother loved it. So I wore it. I still hate it but it made my mother happy.

My father was not a man to show his emotions and was always one to make a joke. I was his only daughter and leaving his care.

I wanted an afternoon wedding so it was long wait through the day for the time to finally arrive that we could leave for the church.

Isn't that hat awful?

I married the man of my dreams that day and we have had 29 years together. I hope for many, many more.

We have had our challenges but show me a marriage of this length that hasn't. But through it all we have held tight and today we celebrate. Oh, and Happy Birthday to my baby brother. I had the audacity to get married on his birthday and he never lets me forget it!

Happy Anniversary! I think you were a beautiful bride and you two were a lovely couple. Your parents looked cute too.
Best wishes,
Anna
P.S.
My brother got married on my birthday too. Unfortunately that marriage ended in divorce. He married again to his present wife and they chose a different date. I was born on my parents third anniversary! But none of us could do anything about it.
Hugs to you all, including your brother!
