Book Review: How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

About the Book:

Even in Grundy, Alaska, it's unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo's ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.
For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it's love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he's worried that he might be the violent canine in question.
If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he's not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

About the Author:

Raised in Mississippi and Kentucky, Molly Harper graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree in print journalism. She worked for six years as a reporter and humor columnist; her reporting duties included covering courts, school board meetings, quilt shows, and once, the arrest of a Florida man who faked his suicide by shark attack and spent the next few months tossing pies at a local pizzeria. Molly lives in western Kentucky with her husband and daughter.

My Opinion:

I was in the mood for something light, something fluffy. So I guess a werewolf fit the bill. Well, at least the fluffy half. I had read one of Ms. Harper's books in the past and found it to be fast paced, witty and just plain fun. The same can be said for this novel - once you set aside the whole ick factor of werewolf/human sex. 'Cause there is a lot of it. But rest assured it only happens when the werewolf is in his human form. Whew for that!

Mo is the daughter of time warped hippie parents who give her no privacy so she packs up and leaves for a location so far away she figures they will never find her - Grundy, Alaska. Despite the locals disdain for anyone not well, local she soon charms them with her warm personality and delicious baked goods. All except one lone erm, wolf - Cooper. Little does she know why he is so stand offish.  She soon learns his secret when he shows up on her porch, naked and stuck in a bear trap.  What follows is typical romance tale that is really not typical at all.

The characters in this story are REAL characters and they are developed very well. You get to know them slowly as the chapters go by. The tension built by the possibility of a lone wolf killing townspeople leads to a satisfying conclusion.  This was fun, fast light read.
