I fell in love with her for many reasons, not just her name; her blue fur, those teeth, that bit of yellow on her tail, those eyes!

What is a ScareMeNot you ask?
Well, I'm going to tell you!


ScareMeNots are plush toys with long tails. Your child can hug them, hold them or they can hang in your child's room to keep them company at night. They are also great to take along in situations your child might find scary; to the doctor's office, to the hospital, etc. 

ScareMeNots come in two sizes - full size and travel size. They are a soft friend to keep the "monsters under the bed" and any other imaginary demons at bay.  Here is the story of how they came to be direct from the site:

Innovative Toys began in 2008 somewhat by accident. As new parents, my wife Mildred and I struggled with a classic problem almost every Mom and Dad faces with young kids – our daughter Rachael and son Jake were both terribly afraid of the dark.

Although we tried the normal remedies (the night light on the dresser, locking the closet door, etc.) bedtime was slowly turning into a nightmare for everyone. As more imaginary monsters began invading their rooms, Mildred and I began running out of ideas on how to help.

One night, Jake came into our room, afraid of the monsters under his bed and said, “You guys have each other and I have no one.” That’s when I understood. What Jake needed was a friend large enough to hug, someone who would keep watch and make him feel safe.

Within weeks, my Mom Christa sketched out some ideas for “monsters who could protect children,” which we called ScareMeNots. We built a prototype and tried it out on the kids. Suddenly, nighttime was fun again. Having “good” monsters in their room helped the kids feel safe enough to fall asleep. We launched our original line of six ScareMeNots at Toy Fair International in February 2009 and have been amazed at just how many kids (and parents) have responded. I think they are about the cutest things I have seen in a while! I was allowed to take my choice of these little monsters and while I was very attached to Protector Patty there I had a special little boy in mind for this ScareMeNot so I chose...

Watchdog Wally       ...Watchdog Wally!  Only three eyes but two ears and that rather adorable donut head. How could anyone resist?! He is so very soft I think I am going to have a hard time giving him away. Adults have nightmares you know. Why can't they have a monster to talk to? Huh? Huh? I let Wally loose to see what inspector cat Sherpa would think.  He gave him some good sniffs but the real interest didn't occur until I let loose that loooooong tail. Sherpa had some fun then! Pumpkin even bestirred himself to see what was going on - Pumpkin does not move for much so this was BIG! Sherpa gave Wally the paws up! Don't worry - no ScareMeNot tails were harmed during this review! Watchdog Wally stood up fine to Sherpa's erm, affection. He is a tough monster with a very soft hide.
