Review and #Giveaway: DedeMed's 7 Spices

Sponsored by Tomoson.com
Spice!
It adds so much to cooking.
Since I am a cook that loves to play in the kitchen I was more than excited to be offered the opportunity to review my choice from DedeMed Mediterranean Kitchen's pantry.

Oooh, the choices! It was tough but I now have in my creative little hands a lovely bottle of DedeMed's 7 Spices. I thought this would be an excellent choice because it could be used with both sweet and savory dishes. I was torn with where to go first but I had chicken out for dinner the day it arrived and my little brain went into overdrive with a very simple application that would do the aromatic spices justice.

But first a bit about DedeMed. The website is a treasure trove of knowledge and video recipes to help someone learn more about Mediterranean and middle Eastern cooking. If you have never ventured into this part of the world's cuisine you are missing out! It is just about my favorite type of food to eat and to cook. It's healthy and delicious.

Now back to my experiment!  As I said I had some chicken out for that night's dinner. I put some extra virgin olive oil in a bowl and tossed the chicken in.

Then I added a very generous sprinkling of the DedeMed 7 Spices and some salt. I let that sit and marinate for about half an hour.

I baked the chicken in a 350° oven for about 45 minutes. These are home butchered chickens (sorry for the squeamish but this IS a farm after all) and they don't look as nice and white as store bought chickens. I am also not the world's best chicken cutter-upper.

I then heated up my grill pan to give them a little extra smoky flavor.
While the chicken was baking I made some orange couscous which I thought would go nicely with the spiced chicken.  I put a mix of orange juice and water in a pan with some raisins. I know you can't see them, but trust me they are in there.

I also toasted some pine nuts. When the orange water hit a boil I dropped in a cup of couscous and turned off the heat. I covered it and let it sit until I was ready for it.

I was serving the ever present green bean as the vegetable - the man grew a LOT of green beans last year! I simply roasted them in the oven with a touch of olive oil and salt.  When I was ready to serve I fluffed up the couscous with a fork. I topped it with the toasted pine nuts.

It was delicious. The chicken had a lovely flavor from all of the spices. They didn't overpower the meat, they just added an exotic taste that was very welcome.  We both enjoyed it and I know this spice blend will also taste good on lamb. I can also imagine a variation on a snickerdoodle using the DedeMed 7 Spices instead of cinnamon.

Thanks to the generous folks at DedeMed one lucky reader will get to win their own bottle of 7 Spices! Just think of the fun you will have!
