Blog Tour and Book Review: The Katyn Order by Douglas W. Jacobson

About the Book:

The German War Machine is in retreat as the Russians advance. In Warsaw, Resistance fighters rise up against their Nazi occupiers, but the Germans retaliate, ruthlessly leveling the city. American Adam Nowak has been dropped into Poland by British intelligence as an assassin and Resistance fighter. During the Warsaw Rising he meets Natalia, a covert operative who has lost everything—just as he has. Amid the Allied power struggle left by Germany’s defeat, Adam and Natalia join in a desperate hunt for the 1940 Soviet order authorizing the murders of 20,000 Polish army officers and civilians. If they can find the Katyn Order before the Russians do, they just might change the fate of Poland.

My Opinion:
The horrors inflicted in WWII are just too terrible to ignore. This book details a Soviet - I'm having trouble coming up with a word - let's call it an incident like they do in the book where Lenin ordered the mass murder of 20,000 Polish citizens. I knew very little about this before I read the book and like most tales like this from history I wish I still knew very little. The horrors man inflicts ...sigh.
On to the book. It is a very well written, very exciting thriller about a horrifying true event. Fictional characters are seamlessly mixed with historical to draw you into time and place for sometimes very hard to read book. Not hard to read because of Mr. Jacobson's skill - hard to read because of the subject matter.
Mr. Jacobson does an excellent job of drawing you into the horror while still keeping you involved with the two main individuals. Their developing relationship is quite believable and you truly want them to find some manner of peace.
The ending was a doozy and came out of what one would expect from post WWII Soviet politics.

I've never been a fan of WW books, but it does sound interesting.
