I am a sucker for a good birthday card.
In fact, when it comes to my birthday that is the one thing I want from my husband beyond ACTUALLY REMEMBERING MY BIRTHDAY.
You see, he tends to forget my birthday even though it FALLS ON THE SAME DAY EVERY YEAR. And we have been married for 30 years so you would think he would have it figured out by now.
But no. No he does not.
I have to remind him if I do not want to end up frustrated at the end of my special day.
But this year I tried something new.
I wasn't going to give him the power over my birthday.
I made me an ice cream cake.
I cooked me a special dinner.
I made my day special.
And you know what?
He came home with the most beautiful birthday card without my having to remind him.
It was sweet and sentimental and it was perfect.
I added it to all of the others that I have kept from all of the other birthdays.
Oh, he would go and buy them a day later and give them to me with sheepish grins.
I have kept them all; some sweet and romantic, some goofy and silly, but all loved even though bought late and hurriedly.
There is power in a card given with love.
Even a day late.
Of course I have a card for him every year on his birthday.
Right on time.
I don't forget.
I wouldn't dare.
I would never hear the end of it!
Disclosure: I will received 5 free cards from Treat for writing this post but the thoughts and sentiments are all my own.

I so agree a card can do so much!
My hubby does red roses - for my birthday, for Mother's Day, and sometimes for our anniversary. I do wish he did cards though so I could keep them. Roses only last a few days, and a good card is forever :-)
