About the Book:

Two families on opposite sides of the globe are shaken by the rise and fallof the Titanic, "queen of the ocean."

When pampered Jacqueline Abington makes secret plans to elope with the family gardener, she concocts a scheme for another woman to take her place on the much-anticipated maiden voyage of the Titanic. From a poor corner of London, Tessa Bowen has been granted the opportunity of a lifetime-a ticket to sail to America aboard a famed vessel. But there's a catch: she must assume another woman's identity. For the first time in her life, Tessa stays in expensive quarters, dresses in luxurious gowns, and dines with prestigious people. Then a wealthy young American man takes an interest in her, and Tessa must struggle to keep up the ruse even as she finds herself falling for him. When tragedy strikes, the game is up, and Tessa's life is forever changed.

My Opinion:

This being the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic there have been numerous books both true and fictionalized about that sad event. Into the mix comes Queen of the Waves, a tale of love, mistaken identities and discovering what is true.

Jacqueline does not want to enter into the marriage arranged for her by her father for she is in love with the groundskeeper of the family estate. This type of match would never be allowed in her position in society. She and her love, Peter come up with a plan to send Peter's sister, Tessa in Jacqueline's place. Tessa's father is abusing her and this will give Tessa a new start in America. While on board Tessa lives a live she could never imagine - even falling in love. But what will happen when Nathan finds out exactly who she is? And will it matter when the inevitable happens. Meanwhile, back in England all is not rosy for Jacqueline. Did she give up everything for a man that does not love her as she loves him?

This is my first novel by Ms. Thompson and it did not disappoint. She has a very descriptive pen and I felt as if I was there with the characters. I felt as if I could eat at the tables on the Titanic and feel the material of the dresses. The characters were well developed and full of true emotions. The sinking of the big ship was well written and devastating, as one would expect. The course of true love is sometimes not straight and this writer shows that with a deft hand. This was another very satisfying American Tapestry read.
