Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione - Review and Giveaway of the Lords of Deliverance Series
About the Book:
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride . . .
Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .
Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?
About the Author:
A former meteorologist and EMT, Air Force veteran Larissa Ione now gets her daily dose of excitement from vampires, werewolves, demons, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. She lives in wintery Wisconsin with her U.S. Coast Guard husband, her teenage son, a rescue cat, and her hellhound, a King Shepherd named Hexe.
I had read two of Ms. Ione's previous books from her Demonica Series so when offered this one from the Lords of Deliverance I was happy to take it. It is a genre I tend not to like but the books I had read, Ecstasy Unveiled and Sin Undone were so good I didn't care about genre. As I wrote in one of my reviews - good storytelling is good storytelling. These books were compelling in mythology, plot and character and the opportunity to continue was welcome.
I am sorry to say that I was disappointed with this installment. I did not read the first three books in the Lords of Deliverance series so I don't know if it's just this book or if it is the series. In this tale a woman who survived a demon attack, Jillian, is now living alone in the mountains of Colorado when she stumbles across a naked man in a snowbank. Despite there being mysterious deaths in the area and despite her fear she takes him in. He is, of course HOT. He also has amnesia and has no idea of who he is or how he came to be naked in that snowbank.
Who cares? He's HOT. That seems to be Jillian's only concern. Lots of sex ensues. In fact that seems to be the driving motivation in this book. Not plot, not saving the world but sex. The other "minor details" occur in and around the sex. This is where the disappointment in this novel occurs for me for the other books were very much full of sex but it was not the driving force of the books. It was just part of the tale. In this book it's ALL there is. OK - 85%. I still want some plot and character development. I didn't get much.
Bummer. Because I really, really liked the other books I had read.
